Java One Day 3 - wow what a day personally

I was doing my book signing @ the digital guru book store today for the JSF book and some guy came up out of the blue and said 'man your jakarta book saved my a**, here is a free game, thanks'. And gave me a cd for a free game. I'm not even sure what the game is but wow what an honor! It made my day.

Since I did not get his name or anything else I wanted to publicly say thanks!

Java 1.5 on OSX

I'm sitting in the mac osx java programming talk and they are saying that 1.5 is going 'early access' this week. Not able to find it yet.

I'll repost when I find the download.

Can't find the download will have to ask after the show

Rendevous is now working on Java and is avalible on all the platforms that Rendevous works on (its open source so it works everywhere I guess)

[UPDATE] - J2SE 5 requires 10.4 (Tiger on Tiger). So you have to join the Apple developer connection to get 1.5

Studio Creator Up and Running...

I've been working hard @ Sys-Con radio so I've not had a chance to build an application yet but its been running since it finished downloading during the key note. People @ the show can get it for 49.95 for a year I guess. I'll have to find out how to do that... Maybe I'll be able to con them into giving me a free copy so I can blog about it :-)

At any rate here is a screen shot of the app running on my mac.

I guess now I can finally finish my presentation for the Denver JUG.

SALSA hits the Jackpot?

John Crupi was recently interviewed by eWeek about the architecutral mining tool SALSA here. This is facinating. The tool is built on Goslings Jackpot (interview here)tool and looks to have some great features. I have been in the role of cleanup guy as well as archtectural assessment lead. A tool like this would be most valuable. It should be quite interesting to see the presentation at J1 (I could not find the session becaue the site is toast, I'll try again latter and update if I find it). The tool has 2 & 3D visualization techniques and goes way beyond (if the hype can be belived) the typical UML tool that reverse engineers the code. Instead of showing you the vast detail avalible in the src it shows the abstractions and how they plug together. For example from a 2d visualization you could see the 'session facades' and the stuff that they cover as one group of things without all the nasty detail.

Anyway I'm excited to see what comes out of this!

JavaOne, 405+ Sessions Realistically I'll make 20...

There are currently 405 sessions listed for JavaOne 04. I went through all of them and selected 138 that piqued my intrest. Of that 138 I have to trim back to 28, and I'll probably only make 20... Ah well there is always Colorado Software Summit in October.
