Hey Bill, while you're rubbbing elbows, see if you can find out what if anything is going on with overall performance improvements. I see that the 3.0 project plan addresses SWT performance, but I think that the whole patform boggs down as the project increases in size. We currently have (>750 java, >1,300 non-derived, >11,000 all). Each new eclipse release has more creature comforts, but I sit longer and longer in lock-outs, and they're getting more frequent. I'm about to go back to 2.1 !
[I suppose none of this happens on the Mac version :-/]
BTW - You're such a lucky stiff, attending every conference under the sun.

YOU MISSPELLED THE eclipseCon URL. It's .org

Hi Chris, thanks for pointing out the misspelling, should be fixed now. You know I can rarely spell my own name :-) I'll check on the performance problems.
The latest 3.0M6 has background tasks which are supposed to increase the UI responsiveness. I've noticed some marked gains since M6 came out (it might have been M5 but I went from M4 to M6).
BTW. you know I don't believe in luck, providence my good man :-)

Bill,
A funny happened when I downloaded an integration build yesterday afternoon. I just needed to do a quick test to confirm that a bug had been fixed, so I didn't throw in any of my usual plugins... Not only was the bug fixed, but lo and behold, the overall performance of eclipse was much better!!
So I went back to M6, and the first plugin I pulled out was ClearCase. Lo and behold, the mind numbing delays are gone!!

Any way, there are still frustrating delays that occur while working. Removing ClearCase just reduced it from mind numbing, to irritating.
