Thoughts from a NeXTStep Guy on Cocoa Development

He's dead Jim!

Just checked in the last errata pass, last chapter, last verse. It's finito. I still have the iPhone chapter to do but i'm going to take a breather for a few days and get in some very nice spring skiing at Breck.

Just got the current version downloaded and reads very well. It's nice that your covering the iPhone as well, though the current Beta 2 release still doesn't include Core Image filters.

Can't wait for the final build.

One thing I was wondering about was creating a large tiled are using the CATiledLayer. Can this be used to create scrolling backgrounds, like the spore demo that was shown.

Hi Phil,

Thanks for the kind words.

I don't currently include the tiled layer in any example code. You are the 2nd or 3rd person to ask about it though so perhaps I'll add that while we are delayed by the iphone sdk nda anyway.

I suspect that the Spore demo did not include any use of the tiled layer. It was probably all OpenGL. The concepts are similar but more likely than not they wrote the code to manually manage the background.

These large scrolling backgrounds are something that I'm trying to achieve using layers, though I suspect that there would be a more efficient way of doing them.
