Thoughts from a NeXTStep Guy on Cocoa Development

iOSDevCamp 2010

Aug 23, 2010 by Bill Dudney

I will write up the whole weekend but a lot of people wanted to see the demo we did on Sunday so I've made a quick screenshot video showing the two animations that we demo'd on stage at iOSDevCamp.

For those that do not follow me on twitter here is a brief recap. Andrew (my oldest son) and I went to iOSDevCamp last weekend. He won the "Best Upcoming Developer" award for his Unreal Model Viewer iPhone/iPad app, this is a screencast of the demo we gave on Sunday. If you ever have the chance you should make it to one of these, its a ton of fun!

Ahh, like Father like Son. Fantastic!

Don't neglect Android, either. Even though it's aesthetically poorer, when I was young and learning to program, I wanted flexibility and wide open potential. I only bought a Mac in my late 20's, after I'd spent a great deal of time under the hood of Linux, so to speak. It's proved invaluable!

You should be proud. This is impressive work, no matter the age of the programmer.

Next up, he needs to get OpenGL ES 2.0 shaders working on the models for skeletal modeling, ambient occlusion lighting, etc. I expect that he'll have all that working within a week or so at this pace.
