iPhone chapter in the bag...

May 29, 2008 by Bill Dudney

I have finally finished the iPhone chapter for the book. I've also taken an additional editing pass and finally gotten rid of all the parens at the end of ObjC method names. That was the single most pointed out flaw in the book (not sure if that is good or bad :). And finally I added a full section on CATiledLayer. I will post a blog entry about that shortly that has some of what I learned.

So, the book is getting very close to being done. If you are going to be at WWDC I'd love to meet face to face.

That is good news, and I suppose that you tested all the iPhone code on your own device. Hope that the new version 6 doesn't break anything or indeed the final version.

This has been a really interesting read and is something that I think should be carried on, i.e. More in depth books on the likes of Text, Core Services, etc.. or even OpenGL|ES for the iPhone. I can't wait to get the printed version in my grubby hands.

Will be going to the WWDC, so hope to see you around or at one of the many parties that seem to be brewing, so far its the sf/MacIndie and macMacDev. The later is being held across the street for the center, staggering distance. It really is amazing how us Irish manage to recover after 20 pints of beer and a few chasers.

Hey Phillip,

Yeah I've known a few Irish in my time! :)

I will be at the sf/MacIndie party and will try to also make the macMacDev party too. I love the Thirsty Bear.

I will try to make sure to track you down or if I don't see you first make sure to say hi.

I'm tracking the betas, but the NDA makes it hard to talk... that is one thing I miss about java the openness is so refreshing. But I guess I prefer beauty to openness :)

Looking forward to seeing you @ WWDC.

Congratulations on finishing your book, can't wait to read the rest of it. :-) I think the PDF preview is great, been reading it off my iPhone in the plane, off my computer when at home or at work. Please persuade every other Mac writer and publisher you know or get to meet at WWDC to do the same. You earn more, and it's a great start, even though I prefer the paper between my hands. :-) For now, I've got my bookshelf going well: Core Animation, Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X 3rd edition and Advanced Mac OS X Programming. Looking forward to seeing what titles will complement them. :-)

Hi Nik,

Thx for the kind words!

I have loved writing for the PragProg folks.

As an author, the best part of the PDF beta has been feedback before its committed to ink. The errata and email has been fantastic!
