iPhone OS 3.0 Beta

We are pouring over the docs preparing to rework the book for iPhone 3.0.
We are going to get 3.0 coverage into the book, however since its under NDA we are going to be quiet about the details.
I'm really excited about all the new stuff, especially Core Data (in the public slides so details are NDA but public facts are ok). It is going to be fantastic to work with CD on the iPhone, tons and tons easier than hard coding SQL into your code. Yet another reason to learn Cocoa :)
Sorry to be late with my thoughts and this post. Daniel and I have been swamped teaching class.
CoreData will make things much easier, summer will be long to wait.

I just bought the iPhone SDK Development book about a week ago. Is this book going to have the 3.0 SDK covered or is there going to be a new book? Either way is fine with me, just was curious since the book is "beta" and I bought the PDF version which the site mentioned something about updating PDF's if needed.

Thanks for buying the book, yep this one will have 3.0 material.
Don't expect a beta PDF though till the NDA lifts.

What you need is some Apple supplied way of knowing who is under NDA and only giving Beta PDF's to them :)

I don't understand what is this iPhone SDK, iPhone OS 3.0 beta? I have the Iphone 3G... Is this iPhone SDK a completely new Iphone which ill have to buy? Or is it just a software/update which i can install on my Iphone 3G? Plz Help I am very confused..

I have the same question as Alex above. Is there a whole new phone coming out or just a software update? iPhone OS 3.0 sounds like a whole new phone.

For Alex and Melissa the answer is both!
There will be a software update that you can load in the current iPhones, plus most likely there will also be new model(s) of iPhone.
But the OS 3.0 runs even on the first model of iPhone (the one without GPS), with the exception that multimedia messages (MMS) are disabled.
