scarlet fever
Yes, Andrew has scarlet fever, which is basically strep with a rash. The rash is an allergic reaction to the strep bacteria, which is no surprise that he has it, because he is allergic to everything. Starting today, he is now on antibiotics. He is just taking longer to get better, and as the day progresses he feels worse again. I am hoping that the antibiotics help his somewhat weak immune system.
I do think he would get better on his own, but I am afraid of Andrew having some other side effect that the other children may not have and am glad to have him on antibiotics. He has to be careful with antibiotics too, because he has at least 1 known allergy to antibiotics. Since we moved to Colorado, none of the children have been sick other than the occasional flu-like illness. (Andrew was on antibiotics when he got pneumonia when we lived in LA... that's when we discovered an allergy to zithromax)
UPDATE: he is taking amoxicillin and has no reaction, and is feeling better. His rash has disappeared for the most part and he was able to participate in the FLL mock tournament last night. He was even well enough to get his hair cut... which is NOT his favorite thing to do. :)
We'll be praying for Andrew. Scarlet fever sounds terrible. ((((((HUGS))))))

Oh, I'm so sorry! Strep is nothing to fool around with, I'll pray that he responds well to the antibiotics and everyone else is better soon. Yuck!

Gosh, that's crazy! I don't think I've heard anyone say that they've had scarlet fever (but it sounds like I did have it as a child). Those antibiotics are scary, as I learned the hard way with Julianna last Dec. She's now allergic to all penicillins, Sulfa drugs and Cephalasporins. Which only leaves us with about 2 antibiotics that she can take. Hopefully this one will work for him. What did they put him on?
